Three people are killed every week while trying to protect their land according to new Global Witness report

4. 10. 2022 - Vanessa Špačková

Over the last ten years, 1,733 murders of activists involved in nature protection have been documented. Most of the victims came from countries of the Global South.

Global Witness, an organization that has been investigating and exposing human and environmental rights abuses in the oil, gas, mining and timber sectors for more than 25 years, released a comprehensive report on the subject in late August. It is not positive reading. Three people are killed every week just for their efforts to protect our environment. According to the statistics, most murders are linked to the mining sector, and the most dangerous place for environmental activists is Latin America.
